Georgia Title for Vehicle

You should apply for a Ga. title as soon as possible after you purchase or acquire ownership of the vehicle or for a new resident, as soon as possible after you move to this state.

When your vehicle requires a Ga. title, you will be unable to register your vehicle and obtain a Ga. license plate (tag) or to transfer an existing Ga. license plate to the vehicle without a Ga. title already issued in your name or without applying for a title at the time of registration.

You have thirty (30) days from the purchase or transfer date or the date you establish residency in Ga. to register and obtain a Ga. tag or tag transfer for your vehicle. If you fail to register during this 30 day period, you will be subject to fines if stopped by law enforcement.

A $10.00 penalty applies if not applying within the 30 day period. If your vehicle is currently titled in another state in your name, this title penalty is not due. An additional $10.00 title penalty is due if an application for a Georgia title was previously submitted in your name(s) and returned requesting additional action before title insurance and compliance has not been made within sixty (60) days of the accompanying letter's date.
