The Dougherty County Public Works Department has three sub-departments; Engineering, Vehicle Maintenance and Environmental Control. The Public Works director and assistant director oversee a construction and drainage crew, road maintenance crew, right-a-way clearing crew, pipe-laying crew, and a technician for buildings/grounds and pump stations. The director also supervises an administrative staff that supports Public Works and its three sub-departments.

The director is responsible for coordination of all road construction funded by the One-Percent Sales Tax Program, Public Works clear rights-of-way for road construction; build and/or install driveway culverts, catch basins, drainage pipes and manholes; maintain holding pond pump stations; and demolish and clean condemned buildings to prepare for new construction.
