Unsafe Vacant Buildings

Unsafe vacant buildings are a violation of property maintenance codes.  In the City of Albany, an unsafe vacant building or structure is one that is open to the general public by casual entry and is not properly maintained because one or more of the following conditions exist: open doors and/or windows; not weather tight; roof and/or flashings not sound and tight; not in good repair; has rubbish, garbage, and other debris in the structure and/or on the property; structured members not able to handle appropriate load; loose or rotten materials; exposed metal, wood or other weather coating; exterior accessories such as canopies, signs and stairways, or accessory buildings in disrepair.

The City of Albany has a vacant building ordinance.  Code Enforcement is authorized to require registration of vacant buildings explained above (except for active residential rental property).  Click Vacant Building Ordinance to see the vacant building ordinance.
